Congragulations...the Mama's and the Papa's

yesterday I took a nice break-from-life in a little store called THE ELECTRIC FETUS. The best thing about the fetus? You get to smell like yummy incense if you stay in there long enough. Second best thing? The entire store is basically a mash-up of Patina and Cheapo. Music + fun trinkets= an extremely happy me. So what did I buy???
THE LONG AWAITED PURCHASES OF: (drumroll please) CONGRATULATIONS and IF YOU CAN BELIEVE YOUR EYES AND EARS from the wonderful groups, MGMT and the Mama's and the Papa's. Now, I know the latter group has been around loooong before my years, but I've been wanting to buy an album of theirs for a while, so now I did! And Congratulations, the second installment from MGMT, I've been wanting to buy since purchasing their first album. After listening to both albums yesterday while eating a yummy vietnamese sandwich, I came to a conclusion that 60's sunshine pop and physcadelic/electronic/alternative/you-name-it music goes quite nicely together!
REVIEW:
Congratulations is very different from MGMT's first album, but just as great. The nine tracks are somewhat similar to each other, and have a nice beachy-happy feel with underlying tones of despair and longing. You have to listen to it to understand. The lyrics are twisted and poetic masterpieces from Andrew VanWyngarden, many times never having a chorus and telling stories that create many feelings and ideas. Key tracks: Someone's Missing, Flash Delirium

If You Can Believe Your Eyes and Ears is a classic back-to-the-60's album, and even if you think you don't know the Mama's and the Papa's, you do. Everyone recognizes their material. There isn't much to say considering this is not a new release, but I'll just re-enforce my love of Mama Cass's voice, and John Phillips' songwriting. Great to listen to over breakfast, or loooong car trips con la familia. (sing-along :) key tracks: Monday, Monday, and California Dreamin'
